Happy Thanksgiving!

On this Thanksgiving day, I am very thankful:

For our wedding day on May 16, 2009. The day I married the man of my dreams.

For my place of employment and the lovely people I work with.

For beautiful music.

For great friendships that are encouraging and blessings.

For laughter. (And this picture because I laugh every time I see it.)

For Chris graduating with his MBA on December 11th. I am so proud of him.

For this little black angel.

For family who I cannot imagine life without:

The sweet family I inherited.

Old and new family. Close and distant.

For the amazing parents, who just celebrated 31 years of love and marriage.

For this man, my best friend, the love of my life, my husband, who supports, listens, encourages, and provides for me. On our very first Thanksgiving as husband and wife, he makes me very thankful.

Mostly, I am thankful for the Lord's mercy and goodness.

*Today is Beth Day*

Sometimes, things happen in this world that leave you forever changed.
This is true for this day.
23 years old this little angel came into the family:

As an only child for 3.92 years, Beth changed my world forever.
And I have never been the same.

Happy birthday to the world's greatest sister!
(Celebrations in progress. To be updated shortly.)
Love you, little sister.

Veterans Day

To all of the men and women who have served and are serving in our armed forces, today we salute you. You're honored for your bravery, your sacrifice, your courage, and your dedication.

You have done what I could never do and for that I am forever grateful.

To all of the families of the men and women of the armed forces, thank you for your strength, your sacrifice, and your dedication to those you love.
To those of you who have lost loved ones in war or service to this country, you are remembered. They are remembered.
To my brother, thank you. I have seen first hand the journey the Marines have taken you on. You are my most honored and respected member of the armed forces.

Thank you does not seem like enough.

May God bless you.

31 and a Taco Bus

The TACO BUS.
Rigged up in the driveway for celebration of Cousin Johnny's 31st bday.
No cooking + relatively no cleaning + good food + making the neighbors wonder = perfect party operation in my book.
You can find the taco bus in the parking lot of Long's drug store if you're in need of quick Mexican or if you're interested in having them cater your own shindig.

10 Much Needed Days

And that's the number of days we've got with this man...
Page me - I'll be in M'town a lot more than usual this week. Wahooooo!
The "page me" is my husband's phrase. I used it in honor of him because, well really, he's that good.

Puppy ER

Rotten pup strikes again!

After our Halloween party, Chris and I came home to find that Macy could barely walk. Seeing a dog hobbling and stumbling around - well that's just a bit more that my little heart could stand.

Wobble, wobble, stumble to the ground.

Sensitive to the touch when I felt of it.

Because of the way she grew, Macy naturally turns her little legs out to the side. Like a person would stand with their toes pointing to the sides. It's weird, yes. Even a bit disturbing when you see her legs turned completely backwards. Since she does this, the vet has always told us to keep a good eye on her.

So, when she couldn't walk on her front right paw, I was concerned.

It was midnight. We had to make a decision. Either we head to some outrageous expensive dog hospital or we wait until the morning.

"What if something is really, REALLY wrong?"

Off we went. (I know what you're thinking... we're ridiculous. The story gets better.)

Chris dropped me off at the door while he parked the car. I carried Macy in (duh! Her leg is hurt!) and checked her in with the guy at the counter.

"Is this Macy? How's she doing?"

"Yes it is... Well, she's holding up her front right paw and can barely walk. We watched her stumble around for about 15 minutes before we called."

"Okay, fill out this paperwork and have a seat. We'll get her back in just a minute."

Fast forward 5 minutes. Chris has already come in and is sitting with us. And no doubt, we're holding Macy down from running around the room.

Talk about embarrassing! Our dog who could barely move is dying to sniff every corner in the waiting room. So, we did what every dog parent would do and whispered into her ear that she needed to at least act like her paw was hurt so we didn't look like big crazy people.

Too late.

"Is Macy still limping?" - Yep, the check in counter guy again. Guess he's watching us.

"Hum, here's the deal. We're not exactly sure anymore."

"That happens. You can meet me in room 2."

In we went. Our tails tucked, hoping Macy would be okay, but at least would look like she's hurt a bit. Working in a doctor's office, there are always stories of parents who bring in their super sick children to see the doctor. By the time they get her there, the child is bouncing off the walls with excitement. Then the parents has to stammer out that the child was really sick before they brought him or her... Something like they've had a fever for two days, been lethargic, sickly looking... But now they're as happy as little larks with pretty smiles on their face. I know exactly how they feel now. Not that we're surprised Macy's adrenaline was pumping - we had to take a car to get to the vet and you know how she feels about cars {read that if you don't or read this if you need more info} - but it would have been awesome if the dog had shown the vet what she was doing for us...

We met the vet. Macy was checked out completely and showed signs of discomfort when the vet touched her toes, paw, and wrist.

"It feels like she's hyper extended her right paw and wrist. With the way she's walking on it now, you can still tell she's favoring it and limping. We could do an x-ray if you would like, but I didn't feel any broken bones."

No doc, that's enough for us!

"We'll just take our now barely limping puppy and pay the large sum of money at the front. Thanks for your time."

Update on Macy girl: Her paw is healing and she's occasionally still limping. The vet told us that she would limp more after resting it for a period of time. (We think that might have been why she limped so bad after we got home from the party... She typically sleeps while we're gone.) We're keeping a good eye on her though. Luckily, Macy doesn't act like it bothers her too much.

Lucky for us, there's a story to take away from the night.

Punishment

Sadly, this is a real picture. That's my real rear view mirror. And that was a real ticket given to yours truly.
As one of my dear friends married a police officer, I have full respect for those who enforce the law around these parts. It's a hard job. They work to make our town safer for all. I know with 10+ hours per week on the road, my chances of getting a one of those definitely increases. You just don't want it to happen a mile from your home after a long day. There's also truth to being punished for your crimes, which I believe includes being stopped on the side of the road hoping no one you know drives by.
However, I do believe he was hiding and trying to trick me, because he was behind some bushes at the bottom of a hill. Terribly unfair, don't you think? An injustice! I should report him for giving me a ticket.
Who thought 53 in a 40 mph was so bad?

Interesting Christian perspective on Capital Punishment... found here.
Note: This blog fully supports and encourages safe driving practices. Be careful out there. Carry your glock if necessary.

Tennessee vs. Alabama

There once was a man named Chris who loved Alabama football.

He loved it so much he would proudly tell all of his friends of his love for Alabama football.

One day, he met this man:

His name was Drew and he also loved Alabama football.

Chris and Drew talked Alabama football every time they saw each other and would even say things like "Roll Tide!" to each other.

Then one day Drew was given four tickets to the Tennessee vs. Alabama game. He talked to his wife, Allison, and they decided to invite Chris and his wife, Julie, with them. They knew Chris and Julie would LOVE to go with them. Chris could barely wait to spend a whole weekend talking Alabama football with Drew.

Then the weekend came. They drove the four hours to Birmingham and stayed with Chris' grandmother. Seeing Gran was wonderful! She made them a delicious "big boy" breakfast on Saturday morning and sent them on their way to the game.
The group met up with Drew's family. Everyone had lunch at Subway and spent the afternoon walking around Alabama's campus, shopping for t-shirts to take home, and picture taking beside Bear Bryant:

Here are Allison and Julie on the grass:

They cheered for Tennessee in a sea of red.

Chris and Julie were super pumped to be there! A bit divided though wearing the conflicting red and orange.

Drew and Allison loved the game. Everyone ate their hearts content with funnel cakes, hot dogs, lemon ice, and drinks. They didn't even care they spent so much money on overpriced food!
The group went home the next morning happy to have gone on such a wonderful weekend trip.
It was a fabulous weekend for four great friends.
The end.

We're so good - we should get paid.

Babysitting. It's a hard job, but somebody's gotta do it. You should hire us. Here's why:

Kids love chilling on the floor. We get down and dirty with them. Even let them play with water bottles. (See what Addalee is holding.)

Then, because we have so many toys to play with for spur of the moment babysitting, we teach them to play guitar. We'll even answer the same question - "What are you doing?" - about 37 times in 2 hours.

Then, of course, there is good quality tv watching.

And jumping on chairs.
We also allow:
Smooshing your sister on the couch.
Eating mushed up potato casserole in the living room.
And climbing wooden stairs.
All in all - we're quality babysitters. ;)

Lane Kiffin's Big Debut

Tennessee vs. Western Kentucky

Neyland Stadium

Tons of crowds
Lots of orange! (and one creepy guy - Seriously!)

The hubs and I - wearing our shades. Okay, so maybe we sat in the wrong seats for the first 20 or so minutes of the game, but man, were they great seats!
There's nothing like a lovely sunglass tan...

{Tap, tap, tap} Excuse me! Is this thing on?

I would love one of these again.
Dinner with two college roommates. Nothing like living with five girls in a "two" bedroom, one bathroom (you read that correctly) home to build lasting friendships...
