Is this the end?

To all of you who read this,

Thank you!

I put these posts out there, wondering who reads and follows our little life.  I'm so grateful for those of you who do.

Maybe you've notice I haven't posted in a bit.

It's because Blogger wants me to start paying.

Evidently I've reached my free storage quota.  I guess three years of a blog with a good amount of photos will do that!

Anyway, I'm at an internal crossroads.

Do I continue on this blogger path?  Start a new path down wordpress?  I'm pretty sure I can transfer the already existing posts either way.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Pointers on Wordpress?  Want to be my blogging assistant?  Think I should hang up this blog's boots for good?

Model shots of Kate

My sweet sister in law, Katie, asked me to take some photos of her.

She is restarting her modeling career while she's back in school to become an RN.

Of course I was thrilled to do it!

We woke up the morning of our scheduled shoot to find that it had snowed again overnight.  Roads were closed due to ice...  It couldn't have been over 18 degrees.

Katie and I had planned to do most of the pictures outside, so we had to come up with another game plan.  We sweet talked Chris into driving us (best husband ever!) and we all ended up going to the convention center.  I knew we'd be able to do something with those huge windows and beautiful light, so we crossed our fingers it would be unlocked.

It was our lucky day.

It's all about the light.

We had to walk through the convention center a bit to find the best light.  Once we did though, Katie struck her model poses.

She's a natural.

Gorgeous, right?

For these shots, I had Katie stand with a column behind her and the window about 10 inches from her face.  This way the best light would fall on her.  We also had an assistant use the reflector to bounce light on the side of her face that was farther away from the window.

Want to see the column?

Photographer's error.  Once I realized the column was there, I just scooted Kate up closer and positioned myself so the column was out of the camera's frame and got the other photos.

Maybe another note of interest:  I stood on a chair to take many of these shots.

We all look a little prettier and thinner (not that Kate needed any help with either) when we look at an upward angle.  If I hadn't, long legs Katie would have had to look down on me just a bit.  Everyone knows looking down angles aren't the best for photos.  They produces double chins, or as my husband says, double heads.

Wardrobe change:

Does anyone else have leg envy?

This would by why I like to refer to her and her brother as "Long Legs Louise."
She backed up from the window and then the light cast more shadows on her.  Created more drama.

Like the serious look?  It's hard for two girls who like to laugh as much as we do to be so serious.  You'll find fewer serious and more smiles in these pictures, but honestly that's the way I like it.

And I really like to laugh with Katie...

Remember when I told you it was 18 degrees outside?

What a rockstar is this girl??

She went out in the mini dress.  and I snapped photos of her like crazy fast.  I couldn't have my model freeze over on me.

This dress is super cute.  and Katie rocked it with her bare legs.

I asked her if it was really a shirt when she walked out.  She only laughed.

It's just like something my sister Beth would do.  They both believe the shorter the better.

Icicles started forming on her so we moved back inside.

I checked out the photo on my camera screen.  You know, just to make sure her bottom wasn't showing.  I am sure mine would have been.  This, I believe, is why Katie is a model and I am not.

When she had ten minutes of warmth, I asked her if she was ready to do it again.

to brave the elements...

She was.

We moved quickly and efficiently.  Both of us thinking of poses as fast as possible.

I like to think we made a pretty good team.
She brought the looks and I took the shots.

One word of wisdom (that someone told me) - once you get your model set up in a good location, take a lot of your photos there.  One good location is better than a multitude of okay ones.  It takes time to set up your picture, so use your time valuably.  Oh, and pick awesome locations with killer light.

Kate had one more outfit:

For these shots, we just huffed and puffed and moved that big sofa up to the window.

The window put some pretty light on her face and even created those cute little catch lights in her eyes.

We weren't done though.

For these next shots, she turned around with the window to her back and I exposed the shots for her face (not the background).

We also used a reflector to bounce the light from the window on her pretty face.  The reflector also created these beautiful catch lights in her eyes.

After those shots, we wanted to get some yellow shirt pictures outside.

This time she leaned up against the window (which gave great reflection).

Smiling vs. Serious - Kate looks great either way.

Katie was such a fun model!  She was up for anything and rocked everything that came to my mind.

Just when we the boys thought we were done, Katie wanted a picture with the sunsphere...

Here's how she looked through my frame standing up and far away:

But when you move closer and get low {and I mean WAY low} to the ground, you can get this shot:

Kate - You are such a beautiful model and I was honored to take these photos!
Love you!

Jeff's Bowling Birthday

Jeff turned the big 30 this year.  (I feel like this is becoming a theme with us!)

In order to celebrate, his wife, Emily, organized a fun party at the none other than the Family Bowl.

{Chris, Andy, Dave, Sean, Hunter, Jeff, and Tommy}

You know us Connells - we're not ones to miss a party, so we headed over to the Family Bowl and slapped on some fancy bowling shoes!  We wanted to celebrate Jeff's 30th year of life!

{Emily = wife of birthday boy, Emily = wife of Hunter, and Brooke = name not Emily, but wife of Dave}

Sporting the awesome glow stick necklaces from the party!

{Based on who's head is first going left to right:  Emily, Cameron, Emily, me, and Brooke}

{Me and the Mr.}

Mr. Connell is a pretty fabulous bowler, if I do say so myself.  I had to work up my bowling skills, but finally was able to give Cameron a run for her money in the second round.  (For the record:  If we ever create a bowling team, I'm on Cam's.)  I think for me the magic came when I started rolling over-handed.  It's not the proper way for sure, but worked for me!

Happy Birthday, Jeff!
Your wife sure knows how to throw a fun party!

Two for one...

Babies!

Both born on the same day at the same hospital!  One was planned and one was a surprise.

Mr. Connell and I met up with Hunter and Emily for dinner at Pei Wei and then headed to the hospital together.  We had babies to kiss!

Jennifer had Baby Luke early that morning...

{Mr. Connell, Emily, Hunter, and proud papa, Adam, with Baby Luke}

and Allison and Drew were surprised by Baby Joel coming a couple of weeks early.

{Allison with Baby Joel in an Emily sandwich and I'm on the left}

Those babies are precious and we were glad to get to celebrate a little with each family!
Oh, and thanks for making it easy on us with one trip to the hospital!

Natalie's birthday

Mothers are such special people.  {Especially ours!}

So, when Chris' mother, Natalie, had a birthday coming up, we thought it would be special to have her over for dinner.

A dinner that she didn't have to cook!

Once we got it on the calendar for Jan 8th (the day before her birthday), I began planning.  Borrowed the tablecloth from my mother and washed all the china (it hadn't all been used!).  Natalie gave me cute pineapple napkin rings and antique silverware for Christmas, so I knew for sure I wanted to use them.  Everything made the table look so pretty!

We picked up these roses the night before when we made our grocery run.  I loved the peachy pink shade and thought Natalie would love them as well.

{See the little gift box at Natalie's seat?}

The menu was created based on what the birthday lady would like.  An apple/craisin salad, chicken casserole over rice, pineapple casserole, peas, and rolls.

For dessert, there were lemon cream cheese cupcakes:

"A wife of noble character who can find?
   She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
   and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
   all the days of her life...
She speaks with wisdom,
   and faithful instruction is on her tongue...
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
   but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
   and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

Our after dinner entertainment was none other than Just Dance 2
{What can we say??  We love this game!}

For a woman who does so much for us, we were glad to get to love on her.
It was special a night of celebrating such a great lady!

High School Boys Dinner

Back when Mr. Connell was in high school, he was thick as theives with these three men:

{Andy, Chris, Chase, and Hunter}

They caused trouble in their school and neighborhoods.
Tried to date all the ladies.
Went on vacations Spring Breaks together.
Got in trouble with the law for playing their music too loud.
Perfected their dance moves. {and had Chris' Dad video tape them}
etc... etc... etc...

Time has been good to their friendships.  I love hearing their stories from back in the day.  Now, we are all such good friends and always enjoy spending time together.

Over the holidays, while Chase's girlfriend, Celeste, was in town from Hong Kong (yes, we now entertain international travelers), they all came over for taco soup at our house.

{Celeste, me, Cameron, Liam, and Emily}

{Liam and Chris}

Little Liam.  If only you could see him dancing!  Liam is Emily and Hunter's baby.  The first child in this group.

After dinner, we fired up the Wii and put in our new Just Dance 2 game.  This game is awesome!  Totally worth the $49 it costs.  (Luckily for us, I had found $50 from an old flame just the day before.  It was like it was meant to be!)

{Hunter and Emily breakin' it down!}

We are so grateful for these friends!
who's ready for another round of Just Dance??

New Year's Eve

New Year's is a special holiday for us.

Back on New Year's Eve of 2007 (going into 2008), Mr. Connell and I spoke on the phone for the very first time.  He called as I was baking a cake to take to a New Year's party at my friend Grayson's house.  His voice was dreamy and we talked and talked like we had always known each other.  When we got off the phone, it was as if something in the universe had shifted and I knew it.  I knew after hearing his voice, things were different.  When the clock struck midnight, I sent a little text to that handsome voice (something I would not normally do being the southern gal I am).  He was sound asleep, but received it the next am.

Ever since, we've been celebrating the New Year together.
You've just gotta kiss the one you love when the clocks strikes midnight!

{Me and Jennifer}

In anticipation of 2011, we were invited to gather with some friends at Altruda's.

{Adam, Chris, and Hunter}

The moody atmosphere was perfect for our celebration.  The food was Italian.  And the company was full of people we love being with.

{Emily, me, and Jennifer}

{All the ladies:  Staci, Jessica, Beth, Katie, Brooke, Emily, me, and Jennifer}

Right before dinner was served, Beth and her husband, John, made the big announcement that Beth is expecting!  She's due in August and we couldn't be happier for them.

{Adam looking on, Seth, Beth, Chris, John, and Jessica}

After dinner, the celebration continued back at our house where we had some yummy desserts and counted down the seconds when the ball dropped.

I believe that picture above had to do with Beth being pregnant...  All one big happy family!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

and if you're wondering, I definitely got that perfect midnight kiss.  :)
